happy holidays

over the holidays, my grandparents came to visit, which means halmuni, or grandmother, gets busy in the kitchen making some real 'seoul' food.  her visit also usually includes her sewing or knitting me something on whim (usually per my request), and as a child, i used to just watch her as she went to work on her projects.  i think i will forever be someone who is limited to knitting just scarves or sewing with basic patterns.  so, the good news is that my craft projects on this blog should be at beginner level.

here's a photo of my new slippers knitted by halmuni.  i laughed at first because they're pointy like elf shoes, but at least they are a lot easier to put on and throw in the washer!

happy holidays, everyone! i think next year, i'll try a festive DIY Christmas tree like this one:

hunky dory apron

the idea to create a blog about my adventures in craftland began when i decided to enroll in a beginner's sewing class near the office to help pass the time until traffic died down.  i had the option of several projects, but i chose to make a handmade apron that i could wear while entertaining friends in my humble sf apartment.  understated, it was SOO much fun!

i really enjoyed this project from beginning to end, but the most exciting part was selecting the pattern and fabrics.  the main fabric for the apron -- called hunky dory -- is the inspiration for this blog.  it was also my first experience with a kokka fabric, and i think the newspaper print fabric really added a lot of character to the green floral cotton.  i can't wait to use the leftover fabric for future projects.

The inspiration for the blog
i've already received quite a few compliments on my first project.  as a newbie in the kitchen, i think i'm off to a pretty good start.  what do you think?

The finishing touch: an old pin from Gap Kids.
