flowers in your hair pillowcase

there's that famous oldie that tells listeners, "if you're going to san francisco, be sure to wear some flowers in your hair."  while i don't wear flowers in my hair, i do sleep on them every night.  close enough?

here's my first pillowcase made of floral flannel that i got during a huge sale at Joann's.  despite a smug comment i overheard by a more experienced sewer about how cheap the quality of fabric is at joann's, i couldn't be any happier with my can't-go-wrong $5/yard fabric.  this pillowcase makes the chilly san francisco nighttimes cozier, and it gets softer with every wash.  maybe with the extra fabric, i'll make matching pj pants one day!

My flannel pillowcase shown with an embroidered pillowcase from the Pottery Barn in the Marina.
I used bias tape to trim the pillowcase.

Instead of using a pattern or set of instructions, I looked at an old pillowcase.  You can see here that on my first try, I accidentally sewed the fabric inside out.  But even the best of us make honest mistakes every now and then :)

I handsewed the trim onto the pillowcase for a more handmade look.
sweet dreams, san franciscans.  rock on scott mckenzie.

lemondrop earrings

it was new year's day, and i was super lazy.  it was the unashamed kind of laziness where you don't leave the house all day except to buy milk with your roomie for your 2 pm pancake lunch appointment on your very own couch.  post-holiday food coma is the probable culprit for inducing my sedative state, but i figured there was no better way to start the new year than to get the creative juices going.  here's to my first creative endeavor of the year.

i would like to thank julia child and her movie for my first pair of food-inspired earrings.  these are probably the sweetest lemons you'll ever find, and in season all year round!

These lemondrops were a gift to my roomie, who also gave me the lemon shaped creamer featured here.
